Job Summary
The Technical Research Assistant conducts a rapid, targeted assessment of Ethiopia''s tourism and hospitality sector to support the development of GTF''s Hospitality Training Initiative. The role involves researching industry workforce needs, identifying training gaps, evaluating existing institutional curricula, consulting key stakeholders, and delivering actionable recommendations to guide the establishment of GTF''s training school.
Key Responsibilities
Conduct comprehensive research on Ethiopia’s tourism and hospitality sector to map current market opportunities, challenges, and workforce demands.
Identify specific skills and training gaps within the hospitality industry.
Assess existing tourism and hospitality training institutions and review their curricula.
Conduct stakeholder consultations, surveys, and interviews with hotels, restaurants, training providers, students, and government bodies.
Identify potential industry partners and institutional collaboration opportunities.
Analyze qualitative and quantitative data to generate practical, evidence-based recommendations.
Prepare and present a concise, high-quality final report detailing key research findings.
Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements
Educational Background:
Master’s degree (preferred) or Bachelor’s degree in Tourism, Hospitality, Business, Economics, Education, Research, or a related field.
Work Experience
Minimum of
5 years
of relevant research or professional experience. Prior experience in the tourism and hospitality sector—specifically within the Ethiopian context—is strongly preferred.
Required Skills & Competencies
Strong mastery of both spoken and written English.
Excellent research, analytical, writing, and communication skills.
Proven experience conducting stakeholder interviews, surveys, and focus groups.
