Software Engineer - Fintech Integration

Job Summary

Safaricom Ethiopia is seeking a talented Software Engineer for its M-Pesa Technology department to focus on internal and external fintech integration. The engineer will leverage their back-end development and system integration expertise to create efficient, secure, and user-friendly APIs and middleware within an agile environment. Working alongside cross-functional teams, the successful candidate will design, build, and support mobile, API, and microservice-driven solutions using modern DevOps practices to advance the company''s digital connectivity and inclusive financial services mission.

Key Responsibilities

Develop mobile, API, and microservice-driven digital products as part of the M-Pesa Technology team.

Apply DevOps practices and tooling—including Git, Docker containers, Jenkins, and Kubernetes—to develop and support various software products.

Translate product ideas into high-quality code that conforms to standardized development frameworks and meets agreed delivery timelines using Agile/Scrum tools like Jira and Confluence.

Collaborate closely with product managers, cross-functional teams, and external parties to ensure successful end-to-end product delivery.

Conduct ongoing problem-solving, code maintenance, and issue resolution across both development and production environments.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Development, or an equivalent related subject.

Experience

At least 1 year of coding experience in a non-university setting.

Required Skills

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, Spring, Spring MVC, JEE, Maven, Spring Cloud, along with integration technologies such as APIs, web services, message queues, SOAP, REST, and Swagger UI. Strong understanding of microservice architecture, relational databases (MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL), Docker-based containers, Kubernetes, and CI/CD automation tools like Jenkins.
