Job Summary
Safaricom Ethiopia is seeking an M-Pesa Digital Channel Developer (Android) to join its mobile development team and build innovative Android applications. Operating within an agile environment, the developer will use Kotlin to design and maintain scalable apps, integrate RESTful APIs, and collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to deliver exceptional user experiences. The role focuses on combining visual design with high usability to expand digital connectivity and inclusive financial services across the country.
Key Responsibilities
Build reusable code, libraries, and advanced Android applications using Kotlin while ensuring the technical feasibility of user stories and UI/UX designs.
Consume RESTful APIs, manage local data persistence, and implement modern architectural patterns such as MVVM and Jetpack components.
Participate in cross-functional technical and non-technical discussions to plan, implement, and test solutions using Test-Driven Development (TDD) and unit testing frameworks.
Ensure compliance with CI/CD pipelines, perform periodic code optimization and refactoring, and provide ongoing app support for deployment activities.
Maintain secure authentication, authorization, and data protection measures while following Agile/Scrum methodologies.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Development, or a related subject.
Experience
Strong experience in Kotlin, JavaScript with frameworks like Flutter, and mobile application development practices.
Required Skills
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Kotlin, Java, Flutter, Jetpack Compose, LiveData, ViewModel, Room Database, Retrofit, Firebase, and dependency injection tools (Hilt, Dagger). Working knowledge of unit testing (JUnit), web security principles (OAuth, JWT, encryption), Git, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD automation tools.
