Job Summary

The Credit Controller manages the company’s accounts receivable, credit assessment, and debt collection workflows to ensure collection targets are consistently met. The role plays a vital part in maintaining profitability by assessing credit applications, mitigating credit risk, managing overdue accounts, processing refunds, and supporting the sales team with tailored credit facilities.

Key Responsibilities

Accounts Receivable Management:

Process debtor batches into the ERP system (MSD), issue accurate account statements within strict timeframes, and perform ledger reconciliations according to financial policies.

Credit Control & Risk Mitigation:

Administer new customer credit applications, manage overdue accounts, promptly collect outstanding balances, and enforce strict policies on returned/dishonored (RD) cheques.

Credit Refunds & Customer Visits:

Process daily credit refunds with complete accuracy and conduct quarterly site visits to key clients alongside the Credit Accountant to resolve issues and maintain satisfaction.

Stakeholder Alignment & Reporting:

Maintain clear communication with sales teams on credit statuses, report regularly to the Financial Accounting Manager, and handle customer queries in a professional, solutions-oriented manner.

Continuous Improvement:

Identify process bottlenecks, implement best practices in debt management, and stay updated on industry credit standards.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

Educational Background:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting & Finance, BCOM, CPA(K), CCP(K), or ACCA.

Certified Credit Professional (CCP) designation or equivalent is advantageous.

Work Experience

Minimum of

3 years

of relevant experience in the FMCG sector, with extensive background in customer credit management, billing, debtor listings, and reconciliations.

Required Skills & Competencies

Advanced computer literacy and proficiency in ERP software (MSD), BPC, BW, and MS Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).

Strong financial acumen, risk assessment capabilities, and pragmatic financial judgment.

Excellent verbal/written communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills with high objectivity relative to sales targets.

High resilience, agility, and ability to deliver accurate results under pressure.
