Job Summary

The Protection Assistant – Monitoring supports protection monitoring activities by collecting, documenting, analyzing, and reporting protection-related information from displaced and conflict-affected populations. The position assists with protection assessments, data management, field monitoring, and reporting while working closely with humanitarian partners and affected communities to identify protection concerns and support appropriate responses.

Key Responsibilities

Support protection monitoring activities and assessments among displaced and conflict-affected populations.

Collect accurate and reliable protection-related information using approved data collection tools and methodologies.

Conduct field-level monitoring and document protection concerns, needs, and emerging issues.

Use Kobo and other relevant data collection tools to support monitoring and assessment activities.

Support the analysis and organization of collected protection data.

Prepare clear and accurate monitoring reports and contribute to regular reporting requirements.

Maintain proper documentation and confidentiality of protection-related information.

Support planning and implementation of protection monitoring activities in assigned locations.

Coordinate and communicate effectively with relevant humanitarian actors, local authorities, and affected communities as required.

Identify challenges and protection concerns and report them through appropriate channels.

Perform other protection monitoring and related duties as assigned.

Educational Qualification

University Degree or Diploma in Social Sciences, Law, Social Work, International Development, or another relevant field.

Qualification must be from a recognized institution.

Work Experience

Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.

Experience in humanitarian response and refugee/IDP protection is preferred.

Experience with an international NGO, UN agency, relevant ministry, or local authority is an advantage.

Experience conducting protection monitoring or assessments using tools such as Kobo and ActivityInfo.

Experience working with displaced or conflict-affected populations.

Required Skills and Competencies

Strong data collection, analysis, reporting, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.

Knowledge of Kobo and other data collection or analysis tools is desirable.

Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team.

Excellent speaking, reading, and writing skills in English, Amharic, and Tigrigna.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Ability to work effectively in humanitarian and field-based environments.
