Job Summary
This role is for a dedicated, live-in Private Cook / House Chef responsible for planning and preparing fresh, nutritious, and high-quality meals on a daily basis. Operating within a private residential setting, the position handles everything from daily menu creation to kitchen sanitation and guest service. The ideal candidate excels in authentic traditional Ethiopian cuisine as well as a diverse selection of international dishes, with the ability to tailor menus according to dietary restrictions, special requests, and guest preferences.
Key Responsibilities
Culinary Preparation & Menu Planning
Prepare fresh daily breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks for household members, families, or visiting guests.
Plan and cook authentic Ethiopian traditional cuisine, including injera, doro wat, tibs, shiro, and associated side dishes.
Prepare a variety of international dishes, including pasta, grilled meats, rice dishes, soups, fresh salads, and desserts.
Customize recipes and meal plans to accommodate specific dietary requirements, food allergies, or guest preferences.
Kitchen Management & Hygiene
Maintain strict standards of food safety, proper food handling, and kitchen cleanliness at all times.
Source, inspect, and utilize fresh, high-quality ingredients to ensure optimal flavor and nutrition.
Keep the kitchen, pantry, appliances, and food storage areas organized and sanitary.
Service & Household Integration
Live on-site in the residence to manage daily culinary operations seamlessly.
Deliver a warm, welcoming dining experience for individuals, families, or hosted groups.
Experience
3+ years
of professional cooking experience in private households, guest houses, catering services, or commercial restaurant/hotel kitchens.
Required Skills & Competencies
Culinary Mastery:
Demonstrated skill in both traditional Ethiopian cooking (fermentation, slow-cooking wats, spices) and international cuisine.
Food Safety & Hygiene:
Strong understanding of sanitation practices, kitchen hygiene, and safe food storage.
Adaptability & Service:
Ability to customize menus on short notice, adjust to various dietary requirements, and deliver professional hospitality.
Organisational Skills:
Effective time management, ingredient sourcing, and kitchen inventory maintenance.
