Environmental Health Officer

Requirnment

The Environmental Health Officer supports the implementation of hygiene, sanitation promotion, and water supply activities. Reporting to the Health and Nutrition Coordinator, the role drives community mobilization, capacity-building training, risk communication, and public health preventive interventions to manage outbreak responses effectively.

Key Responsibilities

Project Implementation:

Contribute to all stages of project planning, execution, monitoring, and evaluation for WASH, hygiene promotion, and outbreak prevention.

Community Mobilization & Training:

Conduct capacity-building training for healthcare workers and rapid response teams; organize hygiene and sanitation campaigns with partners.

Behavior Change & IEC Materials:

Coordinate interactive hygiene promotion activities for social and behavioral change, and contribute to designing IEC materials.

Assessments & Coordination:

Participate in WASH-related needs assessments, engage in local coordination mechanisms (such as WASH working groups), and foster productive stakeholder partnerships.

Reporting & Data Management:

Maintain accurate WASH data and records, and prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for technical managers.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

Educational Background:

BSc Degree in Environmental Health Science from an accredited institution.

Licensing Requirement:

Must hold an active professional license to practice in Ethiopia.

Work Experience

Minimum of 3 years of practical professional experience.

Required Skills & Competencies

Technical Knowledge:

Environmental health principles, WASH programming, outbreak response, and community-based health promotion.

Core Competencies:

Strong community mobilization, training facilitation, report-writing, and stakeholder coordination skills.
