Role Summary

The primary responsibility is to execute the visual narrative of a live broadcast by switching between multiple camera feeds, digital assets, and remote sources in real-time.

Operating in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment, the Vision Mixer collaborates closely with the Director to ensure a seamless and engaging viewer experience.

Key Responsibilities

Operate the vision mixing/switching console during live broadcasts and recorded productions.

Select and switch between multiple video sources, including cameras, graphics, video playback, remote feeds, and other sources.

Execute the Producer/Director’s instructions promptly during live programmes.

Ensure smooth and seamless transitions between shots, cameras, graphics, and other sources.

Monitor all incoming video feeds to ensure proper picture quality, framing, colour, and signal availability.

Work closely with the Director, Producer, Camera Operators, Sound Team, Graphics Team, and Master Control during broadcasts.

Manage keying and layering of graphics, lower thirds, logos, captions, and other on-screen elements where required.

Support the production of live news, breaking news, interviews, talk shows, sports, special events, and other programmes.

Maintain concentration and respond quickly to last-minute changes and unexpected technical issues during live broadcasts.

Perform pre-broadcast checks to ensure all required video sources are available and functioning properly. Assist with studio and outside broadcast productions, as required.

Maintain accurate communication with the production team through intercom and other communication systems.

Identify and report technical faults, signal issues, or equipment malfunctions promptly.

Ensure compliance with the station''s broadcast standards, technical procedures, and operational guidelines.

Maintain proper care and safe operation of the vision mixing equipment.

Participate in shift duties, including nights, weekends, public holidays, and other hours required for a 24-hour broadcast operation.

Stay updated on new broadcast technologies, production workflows, and vision mixing techniques.

Person Specification

Bachelor’s Degree / HND / OND in Mass Communication, Television/Film Production, Broadcasting, Media Technology, Electrical/  Electronics Engineering, or a related field.

2–5 years of relevant experience as a Vision Mixer, Technical Director, or in a similar broadcast production role.

Practical experience operating professional vision mixing/switching consoles.

Good understanding of live television production workflows.

Knowledge of SDI/IP video workflows, routing systems, signal flow, and broadcast equipment is an advantage.

Strong attention to detail and excellent visual awareness.

Good communication and teamwork skills.

Ability to quickly interpret and execute instructions from the Director/Producer.

Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.

Ability to work flexible shifts in a 24-hour television environment, including overnight shifts, weekends, and public holidays.

Knowledge of broadcast software and equipment such as Ross, Grass Valley, Sony, Blackmagic Design, Vizrt, or equivalent systems is an added advantage.
