Job Summary
The Backup & Database Administrator is responsible for the administration, protection, and operational reliability of enterprise database platforms and backup systems supporting critical business applications.
The role ensures that enterprise data infrastructure remains secure, recoverable, highly available, and compliant with organizational policies and regulatory requirements.
Operating within a large-scale enterprise IT environment and organizations, the role safeguards the organization’s most asset data, by implementing robust backup, recovery, and database administration strategies across hybrid infrastructure environments.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Database Administration:
Install, configure, and maintain enterprise database systems including:
Microsoft SQL Server
Azure SQL Databases & SQL Managed Instances
PostgreSQL
MySQL
Perform database provisioning and configuration according to enterprise standards.
Manage database instances, schemas, and objects.
Monitor database health and performance.
Backup and Recovery Management:
Design and implement enterprise backup strategies for databases and server platforms.
Manage backup systems and software platforms.
Configure automated backup jobs and retention policies.
Perform regular backup validation and recovery testing.
Effective backup strategies ensure minimal data loss and enable rapid restoration of business-critical systems during failures.
Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity:
Develop and maintain disaster recovery plans for database systems.
Implement replication, failover, and high-availability configurations.
Participate in disaster recovery drills and testing exercises.
Ensure that data recovery objectives meet organizational recovery time objectives (RTO) and recovery point objectives (RPO).
Database Performance Optimization:
Monitor database performance and system resource utilization.
Optimize queries, indexing strategies, and database structures.
Identify and resolve database bottlenecks affecting application performance.
Collaborate with application teams to improve database efficiency.
Security and Access Control:
Implement database security policies and access control mechanisms.
Manage database user roles and permissions.
Apply encryption, auditing, and compliance controls.
Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to mitigate database threats.
Storage and Data Management:
Manage database storage, allocation, and growth.
Monitor storage utilization and plan for capacity expansion.
Optimize database storage structures and archiving strategies.
Data Integrity and Quality Assurance:
Ensure data consistency and integrity across enterprise systems.
Implement data validation procedures and integrity checks.
Troubleshoot database corruption or data anomalies.
Infrastructure Integration:
Integrate databases with enterprise infrastructure including:
Application servers
Cloud platforms
Analytics environments
Backup and storage systems
Support DevOps pipelines and automated database deployments.
Monitoring and Incident Management:
Monitor database and backup systems using enterprise monitoring platforms.
Respond to database incidents and service disruptions.
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Documentation and Governance:
Maintain documentation for database architecture and backup procedures.
Ensure compliance with enterprise data governance policies.
Support internal and external audits related to data protection and compliance.

Experience Requirements
5-8 years working experience in:
Database administration
Backup and recovery management
Enterprise data infrastructure
Required Experience:
Managing enterprise relational databases
Designing backup and recovery strategies
Implementing disaster recovery solutions
Performance tuning of database systems
Supporting enterprise application platforms
