Job Summary
Responsible for overseeing financial operations, ensuring strict tax and legal compliance, and supporting strategic financial management. The role takes full ownership of general ledger management, financial reporting, tax filings, payroll, and internal controls to maintain the financial health of the organization.
Key Responsibilities & Main Duties
Financial Reporting & General Ledger Management:
Maintain and reconcile all financial transactions, general ledgers, and account balances in accordance with IFRS and local standards; prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
Tax Compliance & Government Relations:
Ensure complete compliance with Ethiopian tax laws; calculate, declare, and file all applicable taxes on time; serve as the main point of contact for tax audits and liaise with the Ministry of Revenue.
Treasury, Cash Flow & Payroll:
Manage cash flow projections, monitor accounts payable/receivable, process monthly payroll and statutory deductions, and manage petty cash operations.
Audit & Internal Controls:
Establish, enforce, and maintain robust internal accounting controls; prepare documentation and workpapers for internal and external annual audits; recommend cost-saving strategies.
Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements
Education
Bachelor’s Degree (BA) in Accounting, Finance, or Accounting & Finance from a recognized university (ACCA / CPA student or completion preferred).
Experience
Minimum of 5+ years of direct accounting experience, with at least 2+ years in a Senior Accountant capacity, including proven experience handling tax filings and external audits in Ethiopia.
Required Skills & Competencies
Advanced skills in accounting software (Peachtree Accounting, QuickBooks, Odoo/SAP) and expert command of MS Excel.
In-depth knowledge of Ethiopian tax laws, commercial law, and IFRS.
