Job Summary
We are seeking a qualified and security-focused Security Operations Center (SOC) Officer to monitor, analyze, and respond to cybersecurity events and potential threats. The successful candidate will be responsible for identifying suspicious activities, investigating security alerts, supporting incident response, and helping protect the organization's IT infrastructure, systems, and data. The role requires practical knowledge of security monitoring tools, threat detection, log analysis, and incident management, as well as strict adherence to applicable security policies and National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) standards.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Monitor security events and alerts through Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Extended Detection and Response (XDR), firewalls, network security devices, and other monitoring platforms.
Analyze and investigate security alerts to distinguish legitimate activities from potential cybersecurity threats.
Identify suspicious activities, indicators of compromise, unauthorized access attempts, malware, and other security events.
Escalate confirmed and high-risk security incidents according to approved SOC procedures and service-level requirements.
Support incident containment, remediation, and recovery activities in coordination with relevant technology teams.
Review and analyze system, application, endpoint, and network logs to identify unusual patterns and potential security breaches.
Document security incidents, investigation findings, response actions, and recommendations for future prevention.
Support threat detection, security testing, and threat validation activities to strengthen the organization's security posture.
Monitor infrastructure and systems for vulnerabilities, unauthorized changes, and other potential security risks.
Follow established SOC operational procedures and ensure compliance with applicable security policies and NBE standards.
Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to improve monitoring capabilities and strengthen incident response processes.
Educational Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
Experience & Technical Knowledge
Experience or practical knowledge in cybersecurity operations, security event monitoring, log analysis, threat detection, incident response support, and endpoint and network security monitoring is required. Knowledge of SIEM tools, security incident escalation procedures, and SOC operational processes is an added advantage.
Technical Skills & Competencies
Security Monitoring, SIEM & SOAR Operations:
Understanding of security monitoring platforms and Security Orchestration, Automation, and Response (SOAR) processes.
Threat Detection, Analysis & Incident Response:
Ability to identify suspicious activities, analyze security alerts, and support incident investigations and response.
Infrastructure & Systems Security Monitoring:
Knowledge of endpoint, network, and systems security monitoring.
Security Testing & Threat Validation:
Ability to support security testing and validate potential threats.
Digital Literacy:
Proficiency in using digital tools and security monitoring platforms.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
High attention to detail, operational accuracy, and the ability to follow established procedures.
Good documentation, communication, and teamwork skills.
Operational Expectations
Maintain high operational accuracy when monitoring, investigating, and reporting security events.
Strictly adhere to applicable National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) standards and organizational security procedures.
