. We are seeking an experienced
ROLLING MILL SUPERVISOR
to join the team.
Job Purpose
To supervise and coordinate daily rolling mill operations, ensuring efficient, safe and continuous production of quality reinforcing bars in accordance with production targets, approved specifications and operational procedures. The position is also responsible for controlling fuel consumption, billet utilization, production losses and equipment downtime.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Production Operations
Implement daily and shift production plans and ensure achievement of production targets.
Supervise the entire production process, from billet reheating through rolling, TMT treatment, cutting, cooling, counting and bundling.
Ensure proper coordination between furnace, rolling mill and finishing operations.
Monitor rolling speed, temperature, product dimensions and production parameters.
Ensure efficient operation and adjustment of rolling stands, guides and TMT systems.
Identify production bottlenecks and take corrective action to minimize downtime.
Fuel and Material Cost Control
Monitor furnace fuel consumption during start-up and normal production.
Monitor fuel consumption per ton of finished rebar.
Control billet utilization and minimize scrap, cobbles, rework and material losses.
Monitor production yield and investigate abnormal consumption or production variances.
Ensure accurate recording and reconciliation of billet consumption and finished production.
Quality Control
Ensure production complies with approved product specifications and Ethiopian standards.
Coordinate with the Quality Control Department on product inspection and testing.
Ensure proper identification and segregation of defective and nonconforming products.
Ensure corrective actions are implemented to address quality problems.
Equipment and Maintenance
Ensure completion of pre-start inspections before commencing production.
Monitor the operational condition of the furnace, rolling stands, TMT system, shears and other production equipment.
Report equipment abnormalities and coordinate corrective maintenance.
Ensure preventive maintenance activities are coordinated with production schedules.
Ensure defective equipment is not operated until cleared by authorized maintenance personnel.
Health, Safety and Environment
Enforce compliance with company HSE policies, SOPs and safe working procedures.
Ensure proper use of PPE and compliance with LOTO and PTW requirements.
Ensure machine guards, emergency stops and safety interlocks are functional.
Conduct toolbox talks and ensure timely reporting of accidents and near misses.
Maintain good housekeeping and proper scrap management.
Personnel and Reporting
Allocate duties and supervise production personnel assigned to the shift.
Monitor employee attendance, discipline and performance.
Provide guidance and on-the-job training to operators.
Ensure proper shift handover and communication.
Prepare and submit daily production, fuel consumption, downtime and material utilization reports.
About You
Qualifications and Experience
BSc Degree or Advanced Diploma in Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in steel or cement rolling mill operations or any other industry involving rolling mill and reheating furnaces.
Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
Required Competencies
Understanding of furnace operation, rolling technology and production parameters.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Ability to monitor production costs, fuel consumption and material yield.
Good leadership, communication and team management skills.
Knowledge of industrial safety requirements and production reporting.
