Job Summary

The

Qualitative Interviewer and Analyst

is responsible for conducting qualitative data collection, transcription, translation, and thematic analysis for a major national community RMNCH, nutrition, and malaria program baseline assessment. Operating under ad-hoc contract assignments within the SRH department, the role involves executing In-Depth Interviews (IDIs), Key Informant Interviews (KIIs), and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) across multiple regional clusters in Ethiopia.

Key Responsibilities

Qualitative Data Collection:

Independently organize and facilitate fieldwork sessions, including IDIs with married women and health extension workers, KIIs with local stakeholders, and FGDs with young/older mothers and male caretakers.

Audio Recording & Documentation:

Ensure high-quality audio recording and maintain precise, contextual field notes adhering strictly to research ethics and data quality standards.

Transcription & Translation:

Transcribe audio recordings verbatim from local languages and accurately translate them into structured English templates.

Thematic Data Analysis:

Conduct rigorous qualitative data analysis using software (e.g., NVivo, ATLAS.ti, Dedoose) or structured manual framework matrices.

Reporting:

Draft and generate clean, thematic summary briefs for assigned woredas outlining core cultural barriers, healthcare perceptions, and socio-ecological factors.

Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements

Education

Master’s Degree in Reproductive Health, Midwifery, Nursing, Public Health, Nutrition, Medical Anthropology, Gender Studies, Social Work, or a closely related social science discipline.

Experience

Minimum of

3 to 5 years

of verified professional experience designing, conducting, and analyzing qualitative health research (FGDs, KIIs, IDIs), supported by a track record of publishing original qualitative or mixed-method research in peer-reviewed journals.

Required Skills & Competencies

Software Proficiency:

Proven proficiency in qualitative data analysis software (NVivo, ATLAS.ti, or Dedoose) for coding and thematic matrix generation.

Language Skills:

Excellent written and spoken English, paired with professional working fluency in local cluster languages (

Afar’af, Afaan Oromoo, Amharic, Sidaamu Afoo, Somali, Wolayttatto, Kafi Noonoo, or Tigrinya

) to moderate discussions naturally.

Cultural Competency:

Deep cultural sensitivity and familiarity with rural Ethiopian community structures and traditional gender roles.

Skill Tags:
