Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, phonics lessons alongside broader literacy instruction, ensuring pupils develop confidence, fluency, and a lifelong love for reading.
Plan, prepare, and deliver structured phonics lessons (e.g., Jolly Phonics, Letterland, or other approved programmes) to teach letter sounds, blending, segmenting, and decoding.
Integrate phonics into broader literacy lessons covering vocabulary, comprehension, creative writing, and oral communication.
Use interactive, multi-sensory teaching methods to make learning engaging and inclusive.
Assess pupils’ reading and writing progress regularly, providing targeted interventions where needed.
Develop and adapt teaching resources to suit different learning styles and abilities.
Collaborate with class teachers to ensure literacy skills are reinforced across the curriculum.
Maintain a stimulating classroom environment that encourages curiosity and participation.
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians on pupils’ progress and home support strategies.
Participate in literacy events, reading clubs, and professional development programmes.
Develop effective lesson plans using differentiated instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
Maintain accurate online and offline records of attendance, assessments, and academic performance.
Participate in departmental meetings, school events, and professional development activities.
Uphold and promote the school’s values, discipline policies, and safeguarding standards.
Qualifications & Experience
NCE, B.Ed., or B.A. in Education, English, Linguistics, or related field.
Specialized training or certification in phonics instruction is a strong advantage.
Minimum of 2 years teaching experience in Early Years or Lower Primary.
Excellent pronunciation, diction, and communication skills.
Strong classroom management and creativity in lesson delivery.
Proficiency in using ICT tools to support teaching and learning
Strong subject knowledge with excellent classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Non- negotiable proficiency in Microsoft Office and the effective use of educational technology.
Mature, professional, diligent, and committed to continuous professional development.
