Job Summary
The Pharmacist will be responsible for reviewing prescriptions, dispensing medications accurately, counseling patients on the proper use of medicines, and managing pharmaceutical inventory. The role also involves ensuring compliance with pharmaceutical laws and professional standards, maintaining accurate dispensing and stock records, monitoring medication safety, and collaborating with healthcare professionals to promote effective patient care.
Key Responsibilities
Ensure proper labeling, packaging, and clear instructions for medication use.
Monitor pharmaceutical stock levels to prevent shortages, overstocking, and medication expiry.
Review prescriptions for accuracy, legality, and appropriateness before dispensing.
Verify correct dosages and identify potential drug interactions, contraindications, and other medication-related risks.
Dispense medications in accordance with professional standards, applicable laws, and established procedures.
Educate patients on medication use, dosage, possible side effects, precautions, and adherence to prescribed treatment.
Maintain appropriate medication storage conditions, including temperature control, security, and segregation of products.
Manage controlled and narcotic drugs in accordance with applicable regulations and documentation requirements.
Conduct regular pharmaceutical stock counts and reconcile inventory records with actual stock.
Ensure compliance with pharmaceutical laws, institutional policies, and professional guidelines.
Identify, report, and support the management of medication errors and adverse drug reactions (ADRs).
Maintain accurate records of prescriptions, dispensing activities, medication inventory, and controlled substances.
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support safe and effective patient care.
Implement appropriate measures to prevent medication loss, pilferage, damage, and wastage.
Job Requirements
Education
Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Pharmacy.
Experience
1–5 years of relevant work experience.
Professional Competence:
Knowledge of prescription review, medication dispensing, pharmaceutical inventory management, and medication safety.
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong attention to detail and accuracy in prescription review and medication dispensing.
Good knowledge of pharmaceutical practices, drug interactions, dosage requirements, and medication safety.
Effective communication and patient counseling skills.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
