About the Role
The Manager, Market & Trading Operations is responsible for overseeing and supporting the effective functioning, development, and continuous improvement of ESX market and trading operations.
The role provides leadership and support in the day-to-day operation of trading activities, market systems, operational processes, and participant services while ensuring that markets operate in a fair, orderly, transparent, efficient, and compliant manner.
The position works closely with internal teams, trading members, market participants, technology teams, regulators, and other stakeholders to strengthen market operations, improve systems and processes, support market development, and address operational and trading-related matters.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the day-to-day operations of ESX markets and ensure smooth and efficient execution of market activities and related processes.
Supervise and support the effective use and operation of ESX electronic trading systems and related market infrastructure.
Develop, maintain, and implement operational frameworks, procedures, controls, and policies governing market and trading activities.
Monitor trading activities, market conditions, liquidity, operational risks, and other relevant indicators and escalate material issues where appropriate.
Promote fair, orderly, transparent, and efficient markets through effective implementation of exchange rules, procedures, and operating standards.
Coordinate with relevant internal functions, including Technology, Risk, Compliance, Legal, Finance, Surveillance, and other teams, to ensure seamless market operations.
Work closely with trading members, brokers, dealers, issuers, investors, custodians, CSD, system vendors, regulators, and other relevant stakeholders to resolve operational issues and improve market services.
Ensure that market participants receive appropriate guidance and support regarding trading processes, systems, procedures, and applicable requirements.
Support the onboarding, capacity building, and effective use of ESX market systems by relevant market participants.
Monitor and continuously improve trading workflows, transaction processes, settlement interfaces, and other operational activities to enhance efficiency and reduce operational risks.
Collaborate with the Central Securities Depository and relevant stakeholders to support effective end-to-end transaction processing.
Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, technology enhancement, and improved use of market data.
Support the UAT/ development and implementation of market and product initiatives in collaboration with relevant internal and external stakeholders.
Conduct market, operational, and data analysis to identify trends, risks, opportunities, and areas requiring management attention.
Support the generation, analysis, and dissemination of relevant market information and data to market participants, management, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Monitor compliance with applicable exchange rules, procedures, regulatory requirements, and internal controls.
Coordinate with Legal and Compliance teams on regulatory developments, operational requirements, and implementation of relevant changes.
Support regulatory and management reporting related to market and trading activities.
Work with Technology and system vendors to identify and address system issues and enhance the reliability and functionality of market infrastructure.
Collaborate with Risk, Compliance, and Surveillance functions to identify unusual activities, operational issues, market anomalies, and participant-related concerns.
Participate in market development, stakeholder engagement, educational initiatives, and industry consultations as required.
Support strategic initiatives and projects aimed at strengthening ESX market infrastructure, participant engagement, operational efficiency, and overall market development.
Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.

About You
Education
Master's degree in finance, Economics, Business Administration, Statistics, Data Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or another relevant field.
Experience
Minimum of eight (8) years of relevant professional experience, preferably with exposure to financial markets, trading operations, market infrastructure, financial analysis, or related areas.
Competencies and Skills
Strong understanding of capital markets, trading operations, market infrastructure, and applicable regulatory frameworks.
CISI certification is a plus.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret market data, trends, and operational information.
Good understanding of electronic trading systems and related market infrastructure.
Ability to develop and improve operational processes, procedures, and controls.
Strong stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with senior management, market participants, regulators, and other stakeholders.
Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and high-intensity environment.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel; knowledge of databases and other relevant systems is an advantage.

Fluency in English and Amharic.
