Job Summary
Responsible for serving as the primary legal strategist and corporate compliance anchor for Virtual Equb PLC. The role involves safeguarding the company''s legal integrity, navigating National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) regulatory frameworks, managing corporate governance, drafting commercial contracts, and providing executive legal counsel across all business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & FinTech Governance:
Provide strategic legal guidance on National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) directives, payment system operator (PSO) regulations, data protection, and digital financial services laws. Serve as the main liaison with regulatory bodies.
Contract Management:
Structure, draft, negotiate, and review corporate contracts, banking partner agreements, vendor contracts, software licensing, SLAs, terms of service, and user privacy policies.
Corporate Law & Risk Management:
Advise executive leadership on corporate governance, employment law, risk mitigation, and commercial liability. Oversee legal disputes and debt recovery processes in coordination with external counsel.
Business Strategy & Reporting:
Support business growth, process digitalization, and operational efficiency while providing regular management reports on progress against annual business plans.
Educational Qualification & Experience Requirements
Education
Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) from a recognized university (Master of Laws / LL.M. in Commercial Law is highly advantageous) with a valid legal practice license in Ethiopia.
Experience
Minimum of 4 to 7 years of post-qualification legal experience in a corporate setting, law firm, financial institution, or tech enterprise (direct FinTech, banking, or telecom background preferred).
Required Skills & Competencies
Solid grasp of financial system laws, digital transactions, intellectual property, and NBE expectations with exceptional legal drafting and bilingual fluency (Amharic and English).
