Job Summary
The Laboratory Technologist will perform a wide range of laboratory tests and examinations while ensuring compliance with established laboratory procedures, quality control standards, infection prevention measures, and occupational safety requirements. The role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work effectively in a clinical healthcare environment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests accurately and efficiently.
Collect, receive, identify, label, and process patient specimens according to established procedures.
Conduct hematology, clinical chemistry, serology/immunology, microbiology, parasitology, urinalysis, and other relevant laboratory examinations.
Operate, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment and analyzers.
Ensure proper quality control and quality assurance procedures are followed.
Verify and document laboratory test results accurately and promptly.
Maintain complete and accurate laboratory records and documentation.
Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of specimens and laboratory waste.
Monitor laboratory reagents, consumables, and supplies and report shortages to the appropriate supervisor.
Follow infection prevention and control measures and laboratory safety protocols.
Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results.
Participate in internal and external quality assessment programs as required.
Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
Report equipment malfunction, quality issues, and unusual test findings to the appropriate supervisor.
Provide appropriate support and guidance to junior laboratory staff when required.
Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Laboratory Head or management.
Qualifications and Experience
Education
BSc Degree in Medical Laboratory Science/Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
Professional License:
Valid professional license and registration.
Experience
Minimum of four (4) years of relevant work experience in a clinical/hospital laboratory.
Experience in a hospital, medical center, or similar healthcare facility is highly preferred.
Practical experience with automated laboratory analyzers and laboratory information systems is an advantage.
Good knowledge of laboratory quality control, infection prevention, and occupational safety standards.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a qualified and licensed Medical Laboratory professional with at least four years of relevant clinical laboratory experience.
