Internal Audit and Compliance Intern at The Health Strategy and Delivery Foundation (HSDF)

Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking a young, passionate, and motivated Audit & Compliance Intern to support the Audit and Compliance team in retrieving, recording and reviewing internal processes and documentary evidence of various activities of the foundation (HSDF), including maintaining internal records, reporting and other clerical functions. This paid internship opportunity offers hands-on learning experience in audit processes, compliance, and accountability within a dynamic, donor-funded nonprofit environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Support audit planning and execution within HSDF

Ensure strict compliance with donor/organizational policy and regulatory requirements

Assist in reviewing financial records, payment vouchers, and reconciliations to ensure accuracy and compliance with policies.

Assist in planning and conducting internal audit engagements across departments and projects.

Review of payment request/vouchers for proper coding and adequate documentation

Support the preparation of audit working papers, reports, and documentation in line with audit standards.

Ensure bank reconciliation statements are accurate and free from errors

Review vehicle usage logbook, repairs, and fuel consumption

Risk assessment and risk reporting

Archive audit and compliance documents/working tools

Assist with collecting, analyzing, and verifying data to support audit findings, and help document results and prepare audit working papers.

Support compliance monitoring of internal policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

Learn and apply basic principles of internal control assessments.

Liaise regularly with other members of the audit exercise

Any other duties that may be deemed appropriate to this role.

Must have skills

1 year of cognate experience in accounting and/or auditing services Accounting/Banking and Finance A strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess;

Minimum of a B.Sc. in Accounting/Banking and Finance (First class and Upper Second-class honors)

At least 1-2 years of post-NYSC cognate experience in accounting and/or auditing services

Key interest in becoming or an aspiring professional accountant

Knowledge of accounting principles and financial systems

Relevant experience in audit support, data analysis, or financial documentation will be an added advantage.

A strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools

Attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and thoroughness in work.

Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
