About the organization

Our client is a growing media, branding and public relations company based in Victoria Island, Lagos. The company provides services across storytelling strategy, brand messaging and positioning, content creation, digital marketing, publishing support, public relations, and launch and media campaigns.

The company works with clients and creative partners to develop culturally relevant content, strengthen brands and deliver meaningful campaigns.

Role purpose

The General Manager will provide strategic and operational leadership, translate the Founder’s vision into clear business priorities and ensure the company delivers creative, culturally relevant and commercially successful work.

The role will oversee business development, client relationships, project delivery, people, partnerships and financial performance. The successful candidate must be able to balance creative quality with the structures, commercial discipline and relationships required for sustainable growth.

Key responsibilities

Strategy and organizational leadership

Work closely with the Founder to translate the company’s vision and mission into business priorities, annual goals and implementation plans.

Identify opportunities to expand the company’s reach, portfolio and impact within Nigeria and other relevant markets.

Monitor industry, audience and digital-media trends and recommend opportunities for innovation and growth.

Provide the structure and operational leadership required to move ideas from concept to successful execution.

Track performance against agreed commercial, operational and creative objectives.

Business development and partnerships

Establish business-development priorities, revenue targets and performance expectations in collaboration with the Founder.

Oversee the development and management of a strong pipeline of opportunities across media, public relations, branding, content, publishing and digital marketing.

Guide the team in developing relationships with prospective clients and converting qualified opportunities into new business.

Review and provide direction on major proposals, pitches, budgets and commercial agreements.

Provide executive-level support for high-value pitches, negotiations and strategic client relationships where required.

Oversee the development of partnerships with writers, publishers, media platforms, production professionals, creative agencies and other collaborators.

Ensure the team strengthens existing client relationships and identifies opportunities for client retention, repeat business and expanded engagements.

Hold the business-development team accountable for agreed targets and regularly report on pipeline activity, conversion rates, revenue performance and partnership outcomes.

Storytelling, brand and project delivery

Oversee the delivery of storytelling, brand-positioning, public relations, content-development, publishing and digital-media projects.

Ensure each project begins with a clear understanding of the client’s story, audience, objectives, scope, deliverables and measures of success.

Guide project teams in developing compelling and culturally relevant narratives.

Oversee the coordination of writers, designers, content creators, publishers, media professionals and other project partners.

Ensure creative work meets the approved brief and company standards and is delivered within agreed timelines and budgets.

Oversee campaign implementation and ensure results are reviewed against agreed performance measures.

Client and reputation management

Serve as a senior point of contact for clients and maintain clear, professional communication throughout each engagement.

Provide strategic advice on messaging, positioning, storytelling and audience engagement.

Manage client expectations and address delivery concerns promptly.

Protect and strengthen the company’s reputation through consistent quality, ethical practice and strong stakeholder relationships.

Operations and financial management

Oversee day-to-day operations, project workflows, resource allocation and supplier relationships.

Develop practical systems for project planning, approvals, documentation, quality assurance and reporting.

Monitor project budgets, revenue, expenses, invoicing, collections and profitability.

Ensure resources are used effectively without compromising the quality of creative work.

Provide regular business and project-performance reports to the Founder.

People and culture

Lead employees and project partners with clarity, accountability and respect.

Set performance expectations and ensure individuals understand their responsibilities, timelines and deliverables.

Coach team members, address performance concerns and identify development needs.

Support recruitment, onboarding and workforce planning as the business grows.

Foster a collaborative culture that values creativity, excellence, cultural awareness, integrity and continuous learning.

What success looks like

Within the first 6–12 months, the General Manager would have:

Established clear visibility of the business-development and project pipelines.

Improved the consistency, timeliness and profitability of project delivery.

Strengthened relationships with key clients and creative partners.

Generated new business and increased opportunities for repeat engagements.

Introduced practical systems for project management, financial reporting and accountability.

Maintained the creative quality and cultural relevance of the company’s work.

Reduced the Founder’s involvement in routine operational matters while maintaining alignment with the company’s vision.

Candidate requirements

Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, business administration, media studies or a related discipline; a postgraduate or relevant professional qualification would be an advantage.

At least eight years of relevant professional experience, including three years in a leadership or senior management role.

Experience in media, public relations, branding, advertising, content development, publishing, digital marketing or a related creative industry.

Demonstrated success in business development, pitching, client acquisition and relationship management.

Experience leading multidisciplinary teams and coordinating writers, publishers, creatives, media professionals or external partners.

Strong understanding of storytelling, brand positioning, audience engagement and campaign delivery.

Experience managing project budgets, revenue, costs and profitability.

Strong leadership, communication, negotiation and problem-solving skills.

Ability to introduce structure and accountability without limiting creativity.
