Position Summary
The Gender, Protection, and Peacebuilding Officer designs, executes, and monitors integrated programming that protects vulnerable populations (women, adolescent girls, displaced persons, youth) while promoting inclusive peacebuilding processes.
Grounded in United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1325 & 2250 (WPS & YPS Agenda) and International Protection Standards, the role ensures that conflict prevention initiatives actively reduce gender-based violence, enforce safeguarding, and guarantee equal participation in community decision-making.
Core Responsibilities
Protection & GBV Integration in Peace Processes:
Map local protection risks, Gender-Based Violence (GBV) patterns, and harmful practices within target conflict zones.
Establish and maintain confidential referral pathways for survivors of GBV and human rights violations in project locations.
Train local peace committees, dialogue facilitators, and security stakeholders on survivor-centered approaches, Do No Harm principles, and Protection against Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA).
Inclusive Peacebuilding & Early Warning Systems:
Facilitate gender-responsive conflict analyses to ensure women, youth, and marginalized groups actively shape local peacebuilding strategies.
Integrate gender-sensitive indicators into community early warning and early response (EWER) mechanisms to track risk signals (e.g., restricted mobility, heightened domestic violence prior to wider conflict).
Mentor women peacebuilders and youth networks to build negotiation capacity and secure seats in formal peace dialogues and land/resource management committees.
Program Mainstreaming & Risk Mitigation:
Conduct gender and protection audits across all project activities, ensuring safe access, dignity, and non-discrimination for all beneficiaries.
Develop context-specific safeguarding protocols and ensure PSEA reporting channels are functional and trusted by the community.
Monitoring, Learning & Sector Coordination:
Track disaggregated indicators (age, sex, disability status) to measure changes in community safety, female participation, and protection outcomes.
Represent the organization in local Protection Clusters, GBV Sub-Clusters, and Peacebuilding Working Groups.
Key Technical Competencies:
International Frameworks: UNSCR 1325 (WPS), UNSCR 2250 (YPS), CEDAW, Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC) Gender & Protection Guidelines, Sphere Standards.
Field Tools: Intersectional Conflict Analysis, GBV Referral Mapping, PSEA Risk Assessments, Do No Harm tools, KoboToolbox, SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work), and youth inclusion matrices.
Core Competencies: Trauma-informed facilitation, survivor-centered ethics, community mobilization in high-risk/fragile settings.
Requirements & Qualifications
Applicants should have:
A minimum of an HND or BSc Degree in Social Work, Sociology, Gender Studies, Community Development, International Development, or a related field.
At least 2 years in program coordination,or a similar role.
Good communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Workspace and relevant digital tools.
Experience working with NGOs, communities, youth, women, or other relevant stakeholders is an advantage.
