Description

The Filter Technician is responsible for the installation, operation, inspection, maintenance, cleaning, replacement, and troubleshooting of filtration systems and equipment used in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The role ensures that filters operate efficiently and consistently in accordance with GMP, SOPs, safety requirements, and company quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Install, inspect, maintain, and replace process filters, cartridge filters, membrane filters, air filters, and other filtration equipment.

Perform routine preventive and corrective maintenance on filtration systems.

Inspect filter housings, seals, valves, pressure gauges, piping, and associated components.

Monitor differential pressure and other operating parameters to identify blocked, damaged, or inefficient filters.

Carry out filter integrity testing where applicable and document test results.

Troubleshoot filtration system failures and implement appropriate corrective actions.

Ensure filters are correctly installed and properly secured to prevent contamination or leakage.

Support cleaning, sanitization, and changeover activities in accordance with approved procedures.

Maintain accurate maintenance records, filter replacement records, equipment history, and logbooks.

Follow approved SOPs, GMP requirements, safety procedures, and environmental regulations.

Support qualification, validation, calibration, and commissioning activities related to filtration equipment.

Report equipment abnormalities, deviations, and potential quality or safety risks to the appropriate supervisor.

Work closely with Production, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Engineering teams.

Maintain tools, spare parts, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.

Participate in investigations, root-cause analysis, CAPA implementation, and continuous improvement activities when required.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

Filter system uptime and reliability.

Timely completion of preventive maintenance.

Reduction in filtration-related equipment downtime.

Compliance with GMP and SOP requirements.

Accuracy and completeness of maintenance documentation.

Timely filter replacement and integrity-testing activities.

Number of recurring filtration equipment failures.

Compliance with health, safety, and environmental requirements.

Qualification & Experience

OND / HND / B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Technology, Industrial Maintenance, or a related technical field.

2–5 years of relevant experience in pharmaceutical, food, chemical, water-treatment, or other regulated manufacturing environments.

Practical knowledge of industrial filtration systems is highly desirable.

Experience working in a GMP-regulated pharmaceutical environment is an advantage.

Technical Skills:

Knowledge of cartridge, membrane, air, liquid, and process filtration systems.

Ability to read equipment manuals, P&IDs, technical drawings, and maintenance instructions.

Basic understanding of pumps, valves, pressure systems, piping, and instrumentation.

Ability to use basic mechanical and maintenance tools.

Understanding of preventive maintenance and troubleshooting techniques.

Familiarity with GMP documentation and good documentation practices (GDP).
