About the Organization

The National Election Board of Ethiopia (NEBE), re-established by proclamation No. 1133/2011, is the constitutionally mandated body to conduct elections, organize referendum and regulate political parties in Ethiopia. NEBE is working to boost its institutional strength with a special focus on enhancement of human resource capacity.

Job Summary

The Election Legal Assistant provides administrative and research support to the legal team in matters related to electoral processes. This role involves legal research, documentation, case preparation, and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth functioning of legal affairs. The Election Legal Assistant plays a crucial role in maintaining organized legal records and supporting the legal team in election-related activities.

Key Responsibilities

Assist in conducting legal research on electoral laws, regulations, and precedents.

Prepare summaries and analysis of legal documents and case law.

Maintain organized legal files and records related to election cases and legal matters.

Prepare and file legal documents, ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal standards.

Assist in gathering relevant documents and information for election-related legal cases.

Prepare legal documents, memos, and briefs under the guidance of legal professionals.

Schedule meetings, hearings, and appointments for legal team members.

Prepare meeting agendas, record meeting minutes, and maintain meeting schedules.

Communicate with internal and external stakeholders under the guidance of legal professionals.

Draft and proofread legal correspondence and emails.

Enter data into legal databases and maintain accurate records.

Assist in analysing legal data and preparing reports as required.

Assist legal professionals in gathering background information and research materials for legal cases.

Prepare research summaries and reports for review.

Perform other duties as assigned by your line manager.

Required Qualifications

3 years and Bachelors | 0 years and Masters in LLB or LLM.

Required Skills and Competencies

Previous internship or entry-level experience in legal settings is a plus.

Basic understanding of legal principles and electoral laws.

Proficiency in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and legal research tools.

Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

Ethical mindset with a commitment to confidentiality and professionalism.

Attention to detail.

Proven experience in conducting similar policy reviews or legal assessments.

Demonstrate a strong interest in legal aid and access to justice.
