Job Purpose
The Dispatch Rider is responsible for the
safe, timely and accurate delivery and collection of company goods, packages, documents and other authorized items
to and from customers, vendors, company locations and other designated destinations.
The role holder is responsible for safeguarding all items entrusted to them, obtaining appropriate proof of delivery, maintaining the assigned motorcycle in good condition, and providing professional service while representing the company.
Key Responsibilities1. Delivery & Collection
Pick up and deliver goods, packages, documents and other authorized items to designated locations.
Complete assigned deliveries within agreed timelines.
Verify items against dispatch instructions before leaving the point of collection.
Ensure items are delivered to the correct recipient and location.
Obtain appropriate
proof of delivery (POD)
for every completed delivery.
Immediately report unsuccessful deliveries, incorrect addresses, rejected deliveries or other delivery challenges.
Return undelivered items promptly and in their original condition.
Do not make unauthorized stops or diversions while carrying company/customer items.
- Route Planning & Delivery Efficiency
Plan efficient delivery routes to minimize delays, fuel consumption and unnecessary mileage.
Maintain good knowledge of Lagos roads, streets, landmarks and alternative routes.
Use Google Maps and other approved navigation tools where necessary.
Communicate promptly with the supervisor when significant traffic or other circumstances may affect delivery timelines.
Complete multiple deliveries efficiently while maintaining safety and accuracy.
- Safety & Traffic Compliance
Ride responsibly and comply with applicable traffic and road-safety requirements.
Wear approved safety equipment, including a helmet, while riding.
Avoid speeding, dangerous overtaking, riding against traffic or other unsafe practices.
Do not operate the motorcycle under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that could impair safe riding.
Immediately report accidents, traffic incidents or damage involving the motorcycle.
Never knowingly operate a motorcycle with a serious safety defect.
- Protection of Goods & Company Property
Take responsibility for all goods, documents and packages entrusted to the Rider.
Handle items carefully to prevent loss, theft, contamination or damage.
Never open, tamper with, substitute or otherwise interfere with packages entrusted for delivery.
Never hand company/customer items to an unauthorized person.
Keep the motorcycle securely parked and locked when unattended.
Immediately report any lost, stolen or damaged item.
- Motorcycle Maintenance
Conduct basic daily checks before commencing deliveries.
Check tyres, brakes, lights, engine oil, fuel level, horn and other essential components.
Keep the motorcycle clean and in good working condition.
Report mechanical faults immediately.
Ensure scheduled servicing and maintenance are carried out when due.
Do not undertake unauthorized repairs or modifications to the motorcycle.
- Documentation & Accountability
Maintain accurate records of assigned deliveries and collections.
Record mileage and fuel usage as required.
Obtain and submit proof of delivery for completed deliveries.
Account for all goods, documents, cash or other items entrusted to the Rider.
Submit delivery records, receipts and other required documentation promptly.
Immediately report any discrepancy rather than attempting to conceal or independently resolve it.
- Customer Service
Interact professionally and respectfully with customers, vendors and employees.
Maintain a neat and presentable appearance while on duty.
Communicate politely when making deliveries or collections.
Protect confidential customer and company information.
Avoid arguments or confrontations with customers and escalate disputes appropriately.

On-time delivery rate
Successful first-attempt delivery rate
Number of completed deliveries
Proof-of-delivery compliance

Zero loss of goods/packages attributable to negligence

Minimum Requirements
Minimum of SSCE or equivalent qualification.
Valid rider''s permit/licence and other documentation required for the assigned motorcycle and operations.
Minimum of
2 years'' relevant dispatch/delivery riding experience
, preferably within Lagos.
Strong knowledge of Lagos Mainland and Island routes.
Ability to use Google Maps or similar navigation applications.
Ability to read, write and communicate effectively.
Basic understanding of motorcycle maintenance.
Must successfully complete the company''s background and reference verification process.
Must successfully complete a practical riding and road-safety assessment.

Because the Dispatch Rider will have direct custody of
company/customer goods and company assets
, a high level of integrity and accountability is required.
The Rider must:
Never use the company motorcycle for unauthorized personal activities.
Never divert, substitute or tamper with goods entrusted for delivery.
Never falsify delivery records, mileage, fuel consumption or proof of delivery.
Never collect unauthorized payments from customers.
Never hand over the motorcycle to an unauthorized person.
Never conceal an accident, damaged item, lost package or customer complaint.
Immediately account for any cash or other valuables collected on behalf of the company.
Maintain confidentiality regarding customers, deliveries and company operations.
