MiCT is calling for proposals for a freelance Community manager in the framework of its program “MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices 2026-2027”, funded by the German Federal Foreign Office. This is a freelance position running from November 2026 - June 2027 to be based in Kampala, Uganda. The total number of working days will run up to 120, the exact number will depend on project implementation. MiCT invites interested and qualified persons to submit proposals by 22.10.2026.

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) is a non-profit organisation delivering expert media services in complex and challenging contexts with passion, precision, and agility.
Through collaborative work with partners, MiCT fosters transparent, inclusive, and fair dialogue supporting resilient societies. Operating across three continents and 15 countries, MiCT facilitates journalist training, media content production, research, monitoring, and supports the financial sustainability of media partners.
About the Project:
Since 2022, the MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices has supported at-risk journalists and media professionals from conflict regions, enabling them to continue their essential work in safety. The programme is part of the Hannah Arendt Initiative and a member of the Journalists in Distress Network. It offers stipends, security and equipment support, (mental) health services, legal aid, relocation, and professional development through regional hubs.
3. Description of the role
The chosen person will undertake the following responsibilities to fulfill community management related tasks for up to 20 Fellows based in Uganda:
- Coordinate contractual engagements with the fellows
- Manage stipend transfers
- Support alumni legal and safety needs where required
- Provide logistical and technical relocation support on a needs basis
- Creation and management of safety measures for up to 20 Journalists and/or Media Makers
- Organise relocations, secure accommodations, and co-working spaces
- Organise procurement and contracting of support offers (training, expert consultations, workshops, insurance, language classes etc) in the following areas.
- Organise at least 1 community meet-up, including alumni Fellows
- Conduct regular check-ins with MiCT's Project Manager and Project Officer
4. Application Requirements
Interested persons should demonstrate the following:
- Proven experience in project management, particularly in media development projects.
- Established connections within the regional media landscape and community.
- Strong community management skills.
- Large network of service providers, particularly to provide integration and legal support.
- Understanding of the media landscape throughout Uganda.
- Understanding of the immigration landscape in Uganda preferred.
- Ideally based in Uganda.
