Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

We are seeking an experienced, disciplined and highly professional Chief Security Officer (CSO) to lead the security operations of a 4-star hotel in Life Camp, Abuja.

The successful candidate will be responsible for establishing and maintaining a safe and secure environment for guests, employees, visitors, hotel assets and facilities.

As the hotel is currently undergoing remodeling, the Chief Security Officer will also play an important role in strengthening the hotel''s security systems and procedures during the remodeling phase and preparing the property for full hotel operations.

The ideal candidate must have strong leadership skills, sound security judgment, excellent communication abilities and practical experience in managing security operations within a hotel, hospitality, corporate, residential or similar high-traffic environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Security Operations Management

Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day security operations of the hotel.

Develop, implement and enforce effective hotel security policies, procedures and standards.

Supervise and coordinate all security personnel deployed to the property.

Establish appropriate security posts, patrol schedules and duty assignments.

Conduct regular security inspections of the hotel premises.

Ensure all security officers remain alert, properly dressed and professional while on duty.

Monitor access and movement of guests, employees, contractors, suppliers and visitors.

Ensure restricted areas are properly controlled and accessed only by authorized persons.

Guest & Hotel Security

Ensure the safety and wellbeing of hotel guests, staff and visitors.

Protect hotel property, equipment, cash, inventory and other assets against theft, damage or unauthorized access.

Respond promptly and appropriately to security incidents, disturbances, accidents and emergencies.

Handle sensitive guest-related security matters discreetly and professionally.

Maintain confidentiality regarding hotel operations, guests and security incidents.

Work closely with Front Office and other departments where guest safety or security is involved.

CCTV & Security Systems

Supervise the effective use and monitoring of CCTV systems.

Ensure cameras cover critical areas of the property and identify security blind spots.

Monitor access control systems, alarms, communication systems and other security equipment.

Maintain proper records of security incidents and CCTV-related observations.

Immediately report faulty security equipment and follow up on repairs or replacement.

Emergency & Crisis Management

Develop and maintain emergency response procedures for the hotel.

Coordinate security response during incidents such as fire, theft, violence, medical emergencies, unauthorized entry, accidents and other threats.

Work closely with management and relevant emergency agencies when required.

Assist in developing and implementing evacuation and emergency response plans.

Conduct regular security and emergency drills where necessary.

Ensure security personnel understand their responsibilities during emergencies.

Fire & Life Safety Support

Work with hotel management and relevant departments to promote fire and life-safety standards.

Ensure emergency exits, escape routes and access points are not obstructed.

Conduct routine checks of safety-sensitive areas and report deficiencies.

Coordinate with the hotel''s safety, maintenance and management teams on identified risks.

Support periodic fire and emergency preparedness exercises.

Security During Hotel Remodeling

Because the hotel is currently undergoing remodeling, the CSO will be responsible for providing effective security oversight during the construction/remodeling period.

Responsibilities will include

Controlling access of contractors, artisans, suppliers and other third parties entering the property.

Maintaining appropriate records of contractors, workers, deliveries and visitors.

Monitoring movement of construction materials, equipment and hotel assets.

Preventing unauthorized removal or misuse of hotel property and materials.

Identifying and reporting security risks associated with construction activities.

Ensuring contractors comply with the hotel''s access and security procedures.

Working with management to secure unfinished, restricted and high-risk areas.

Reviewing security arrangements as different sections of the hotel become operational.

Staff & Personnel Security

Monitor staff entry and exit procedures.

Ensure security procedures are followed by employees across departments.

Investigate reported cases of theft, misconduct, unauthorized access or other security breaches.

Maintain proper incident documentation.

Work with HR and management when security issues involve employees.

Conduct security briefings and awareness sessions for hotel staff where required.

Investigation & Incident Reporting

Investigate security incidents within the scope of the position.

Obtain relevant information, statements and evidence while maintaining proper procedures.

Prepare clear and accurate incident reports for management.

Maintain a confidential security incident log.

Escalate serious incidents promptly to management and appropriate authorities.

Follow up on recurring security issues and recommend preventive measures.

Liaison with Security & Government Agencies

Maintain professional working relationships with relevant security and emergency agencies.

Liaise with the Police, Fire Service, emergency responders and other relevant authorities when necessary.

Ensure the hotel responds appropriately to lawful requests from relevant authorities.

Keep management informed of significant security developments affecting the property.

Security Team Leadership & Training

Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate security personnel in collaboration with management/HR.

Prepare security duty rosters and ensure adequate coverage of all shifts.

Conduct regular briefings and security meetings.

Train security officers on guest handling, access control, patrol procedures, emergency response and incident reporting.

Enforce discipline and professional conduct among security personnel.

Identify training and manpower requirements and make recommendations to management.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

Minimum of

5 years'' relevant experience

in security operations, preferably within a hotel, hospitality, corporate, residential estate or similar environment.

Previous experience in a

supervisory or security management position

is strongly preferred.

Experience managing a team of security personnel.

Experience with CCTV surveillance and other modern security systems.

Good knowledge of access control, incident management and emergency response procedures.

Experience working in a hotel or other hospitality environment will be an added advantage.

Relevant security, military, police or professional security training/certification will be an advantage.

Good knowledge of security risk assessment and prevention techniques.

Must be physically fit, mentally alert and capable of responding appropriately under pressure.
