Job Summary
The Auto Electrician / Diagnostics Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting vehicle electrical and electronic systems. The role requires strong practical knowledge of automotive electrical systems, diagnostic equipment, wiring, sensors, starting and charging systems, and electronic control units. The ideal candidate should be able to accurately identify electrical and electronic faults and carry out effective repairs.
About the Job
Diagnose and repair electrical and electronic faults in vehicles.
Inspect and troubleshoot vehicle wiring, electrical circuits, connectors, fuses, relays, and electrical components.
Use automotive diagnostic scanners and testing equipment to identify faults and error codes.
Diagnose and repair starting and charging systems, including batteries, alternators, and starter motors.
Test and repair vehicle lighting systems, indicators, horns, dashboard systems, and other electrical components.
Diagnose faults in sensors, actuators, electronic control units (ECUs), and other vehicle electronic systems.
Inspect and repair vehicle wiring harnesses and electrical connections.
Perform computer diagnostics and interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Carry out electrical system testing using multimeters, test lamps, and other diagnostic tools.
Identify intermittent electrical faults and perform systematic troubleshooting.
Install and maintain automotive electrical accessories and equipment where required.
Conduct preventive maintenance and electrical inspections to identify potential problems before failure.
Maintain accurate records of diagnostics, repairs, parts used, and completed work.
Explain identified electrical faults and required repairs to supervisors or customers when necessary.
Ensure all repairs are completed according to safety procedures and manufacturer specifications.
Maintain diagnostic tools and workshop equipment in good working condition.
Perform other related automotive electrical and diagnostic duties assigned by management.
Educational Requirements
Diploma, TVET Level III/IV, or equivalent qualification in Automotive Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Automotive Technology, or a related field.
Experience
Minimum of
3+ years of relevant work experience
as an Auto Electrician, Automotive Diagnostic Technician, or in a related position.
Practical experience with vehicle electrical and electronic systems is required.
Experience using automotive diagnostic scanners and electrical testing equipment is highly desirable.
Required Skills and Competencies
Strong knowledge of automotive electrical and electronic systems.
Good understanding of vehicle wiring diagrams and electrical circuits.
Proficiency in using automotive diagnostic scanners and testing equipment.
Ability to read and interpret diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs).
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of batteries, alternators, starter motors, sensors, relays, fuses, and ECUs.
Ability to identify and repair wiring and electrical connection faults.
Good attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Good communication and reporting skills.
Ability to work under pressure and meet repair
