Job Description
Lead backend architecture and technical design for complex features and systems by creating scalable, maintainable solutions that meet business requirements, ensure long-term system integrity, and establish patterns that guide future development across the backend codebase.
Guide backend development team on technical approaches and best practices by providing architectural direction, conducting technical design reviews, and ensuring solutions align with established standards while enabling team members to develop their technical skills and understanding.
Design and implement complex integrations between systems by architecting solutions that enable seamless, reliable data flow between core banking, digital channels, payment switches, and partner platforms while maintaining security, performance, and data consistency.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend issues by applying deep expertise in debugging distributed systems, performance analysis, and root cause investigation to diagnose problems efficiently and implement effective, lasting solutions that prevent recurrence.
Drive continuous improvement of backend development processes and tooling by identifying inefficiencies, researching better approaches, and implementing changes that increase team productivity, code quality, and system reliability.
Represent backend technical perspective in architecture reviews and planning sessions by contributing expertise to broader technical discussions, ensuring backend considerations are incorporated into cross-cutting decisions that affect the entire technology stack.
Job Requirements
First Degree in Computer Science/Soft ware Engineering/Computer Engineering/Electrical engineering/or related fields with 6 years of relevant experience.
Expert-level proficiency in
Java (17+)
, including modern language features (records, sealed classes, pattern matching, virtual threads)
Strong hands-on experience with
Spring Boot
— Spring MVC, Spring Data, Spring Security, Spring Cloud/microservices patterns
Deep understanding of RESTful API design, versioning, and secure API gateway integration
Experience with process-oriented/workflow-driven architecture (BPMN engines such as Camunda/Activiti, or custom process orchestration layers) — given the “Process Focused” scope of the role
Strong grasp of microservices architecture: service decomposition, inter-service communication (REST/gRPC/messaging), circuit breakers, and resilience patterns
Proven experience building and integrating
USSD systems
— session management, gateway integration (e.g., with telecom/MNO USSD gateways), menu-driven flows for feature-phone users
Hands-on
Internet Banking
development experience — secure transaction processing, session/token management, multi-factor authentication flows
Practical experience supporting or integrating
Flutter-based mobile app
backends — API design for mobile consumption, push notification services, offline-sync considerations.
